So is there any bass available for less than a grand that is multi-scale/fanned-frets? I understand the answer is likely no, but worth a shot to see if there is something I missed. The 5 is ok, but it feels clunky to me, not to mention HEAVY! For its special design and great gauge variety, these strings with high quality sound and long life are suitable for all music styles. I have a 35" scale 5-string, so I can feel how the added scale gives me a better feeling and sounding B than I did on a 34" scale. Magma strings for Acoustic Bass have been manufactured for professional bass players. I'm not looking to buy quite yet, just thinking about the future, as I am dissatisfied how I have to constantly compromise either on tension or tone (higher gauge strings get more tension, but get thumpy and the loss of mids drives me nuts, lower gauge strings are floppy and clanky or require higher action, but tonally hit the spot) when it comes to tuning down to C or B. Only thing is, the only brand I know to make fanned fret/multi-scale instruments is Dingwall, and those babies are beautiful but EXPENSIVE! Option 1 would be find a 35 inch scale 4-string, but option 2 interests me a bit more, multi-scale. GHS Brite Flats Half Round Bass Strings Medium Scale Set - 4-String 49-108 Medium 3065 29.99 GHS Bass Boomers Nickel Wound Bass String Set Medium Scale - 4-String 45-105 Medium 3040 25.99 GHS Super Steels Stainless Steel Electric Bass Strings Medium Scale - 4-String 44-106 25. I'm currently trying to find a way to enjoy a good solid low string when it comes to playing a 4-string bass tuned down to C or B.
